*Dr. Jeremiah’s helpful prayer should be our foundation as we begin each day’s battles with the enemy of our soul. I pray it will be a helpful reminder for each of us. Blessings, Ed 😊
Ephesians 6 tells Christians to “put on the whole armor of God” so they can stand against the schemes of the devil. Prayer is one of the ways we consciously put that armor on. It turns our attention from our circumstances to Christ and reminds us that victory is not found in our strength, but in His.
BEGIN THE DAY ARMED
Connect with God at the beginning of the day. Armor is less than helpful if you put it on before going to bed. As you pray, be specific about your needs, your temptations, your relationships, and the battles you expect to face. Ask God to help you stand in truth before the pressure of the day begins.
Cameron V. Thompson wrote, “A day without prayer is a day without blessing, and a life without prayer is a life without power.”1
PRAY ON THE ARMOR OF GOD The following prayer follows the structure of the armor of God and can help you begin the day prepared.
Heavenly Father,
Your warrior prepares for battle. Today I claim victory over Satan by putting on the whole armor of God.
I put on the Girdle of Truth. May I stand firm in the truth of Your Word so I will not be a victim of Satan’s lies.
I put on the Breastplate of Righteousness. May it guard my heart from evil so I will remain pure and holy, protected under the blood of Jesus Christ.
I put on the Shoes of Peace. May I stand firm in the Good News of the Gospel so Your peace will shine through me and be a light to all I encounter.
I take the Shield of Faith. May I be ready for Satan’s fiery darts of doubt, denial, and deceit so I will not be vulnerable to spiritual defeat.
I put on the Helmet of Salvation. May I keep my mind focused on You so Satan will not have a stronghold on my thoughts.
I take the Sword of the Spirit. May the two-edged sword of Your Word be ready in my hands so I can expose the tempting words of Satan.
By faith your warrior has put on the whole armor of God! I am prepared to live this day in spiritual victory!
Amen.
This is not a magic formula. It is a daily act of dependence. It reminds you who God is, what Christ has provided, and how you are called to stand. Put on the armor prayerfully, then walk into the day with courage.
Praying this way also trains your heart. The more specifically you name truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God, the more readily you recognize what the enemy is attacking. The armor is not an abstract idea. It touches your thoughts, your heart, your witness, your confidence, and your obedience.
Use the prayer slowly. Pause over the piece of armor you most need that day. Ask God to show you where lies have entered, where fear has gained ground, or where your mind needs to be guarded by the assurance of salvation.
I hope that this prayer strengthens you today and reminds you that victory is found in Christ.
